01Who this applies to
This Privacy Policy describes how the browser extension “Copy Text From Images & Screenshots” (the “Extension”) handles information. It applies to everyone who installs and uses the Extension. By using the Extension, you agree to the practices described here.
The Extension extracts text from images, screenshots, PDFs, and web pages using on-device optical character recognition (OCR). It is designed from the ground up to work without any server, account, or internet connection.
02What the Extension processes
Everything below is processed locally, on your device, and only when you explicitly ask for it:
- Images you choose — a right-clicked image, a screen area you drag to select, the visible page, an image on your clipboard, or a file/PDF you open. These are read by a bundled OCR engine and turned into text on your device.
- Extracted text & capture history — saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) so you can search, organize, and re-copy it later. By default only the recognized text is stored, not the source image.
- Your settings — small preferences (theme, whether to auto-copy, etc.) saved in
chrome.storage.local.
03What the Extension does not do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no email required.
- No cloud processing — the OCR engine is bundled and runs offline.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, cookies, or fingerprinting.
- No advertising and no third-party trackers.
- No reading or monitoring of the pages you browse. The Extension only acts on a page at the exact moment you start a capture there.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of data with anyone — there is nothing collected to sell.
04Permissions & why they're used
Chrome requires the Extension to declare the browser capabilities it uses. Each one is used solely to deliver the features you trigger — never to observe you.
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
contextMenus | Adds the right-click “Copy text from this image” menu item. |
storage | Saves your settings and your capture library locally in the browser. |
offscreen | Runs the bundled OCR engine (which needs a background worker) on your device. |
scripting | Draws the area-selection overlay and capture animation on the current page — only when you start a capture. |
clipboardWrite | Copies the extracted text to your clipboard. |
clipboardRead | Lets you paste an image from your clipboard to extract its text. |
notifications | Shows a brief “Text copied” confirmation after a capture. |
host access | So you can capture on whatever site you choose. Access is used only during a capture you start; the Extension does not read or track page content otherwise. |
05Storage, backups & deletion
Your capture library lives only inside your browser profile. You are always in control of it:
- Delete anytime. Remove individual captures, or erase everything via Settings → Delete everything.
- Backups stay with you. The optional “Export backup” feature saves a spreadsheet file to your own computer. Restoring reads that file locally. These files are never uploaded anywhere.
- Uninstalling removes it. Removing the Extension deletes all data it stored in your browser.
06Third-party services
The Extension uses no third-party services to function. It contains no external scripts, SDKs, or analytics.
The only outbound link is an optional “Buy me a coffee” button that opens the developer's Ko-fi page (ko-fi.com) in a new tab if you choose to click it. Ko-fi is an independent website with its own privacy policy; the Extension shares no information with it.
07Children's privacy
The Extension is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. Because it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
08Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised, and the updated policy will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the Extension after a change means you accept the revised policy.
